Is DDR2 800 required for AM2?

Quick question really... Is DDR2 800 required on an AM2 socket motherboard or is, say, DDR2 675 OK?

no, usually 667 on each am2 mobo is the mininum. you can use 533 and 675 also should be fine.

well, the socket 939 cpus don't get limited by PC3200 RAM.

DDR2800 is the standard for AM2. If you can get it, get it.

DDR400 (PC3200) was the standard on the S939 platform. People only bought higher bandwidth memory for overclocking.

and is there a reason why you asked if DDR2-675 is okay? do you already have DDR-675? or is that just something you picked out

i'm helping a friend put together a machine that has this ASUS AM2 motherboard:

i heard that it's a picky board so i decided to go with CORSAIR memory since i know the board accepts that brand.

i picked DDR2 675 because it's cheaper than CORSAIR's DDR2 667 and DDR2 800.

the board is "DDR2 800" standard, though, so will the DDR2 675 harm potential performance?
