Is CyberPower Systems a decent UPS brand?

Here is their website.

I want to buy a UPS (two or three, actually) for home, and these UPS's are a heck of alot cheaper than the APC's I'm used to at work. I don't want to buy a UPS that doesn't work, or damages my computers... but at the same time the price is tempting!

Anyone have any good/bad experience with them?

I've bought 2 in the past and they both suck.

One failed to power on for some reason, but a few days later, started working correctly again.

The other was fed really bad power to a clock I have connected to it during a blackout. The LCD on the clock was jittery. Then I tried turning on my monitor while the UPS was unplugged. The monitor tried but failed to power on. A few days later, everything was fine again! The monitor, clock, and a network switch are the only things I connected to this 325va ups.

I ditched them and bought an APC. They sure are expensive though.

Belkin is a nice brand with cheap but still reliable UPS products. Conext is also a good brand (they are actually made by APC, they use the same APC powerchute program). My local Office Depot had the 900VA model (500watts) for $89 and it has AVR and all the good stuff.

the only thing good about the Cyberpower's PSU is the warranty.. which you WILL use because they WILL die.
We made the mistake of trying one out at work. It's broken 3 times now. Each time we got it replaced for free.. but....

In other words... "You get what you pay for."

Well, maybe I can buy a used APC on E-Bay and buy fresh batteries... I gotta look into that. Thanks, I'll stay away from CyberPower UPS's.

It's NOT worth it! I had a Tripp-Lite UPS that failed and fried my sound card. Then Tripp-Lite refused to replace it. :| To top it all off, I paid WAY too much for it.

I recommend you get an APC. You can get them really cheap on ebay.

OK, I'll be "Odd Man Out." I have owned a CyberPowerSystem 1250 AVR (top of the line) UPS for about a year now. I let it charge up for 24 hours (per the instructions) and it's been running 24/7 ever since.

It has given me zero problems, usually runs at about 40% of it's max, and about 90% of it's max when I have all three PCs, two monitors, two speaker sets, a modem and a router booted up at once. It has come on more times than I can count to filter the "dirty" AC voltage here in my neighboorhood. It has also come on during blackouts three times and has worked exactly as advertised. I would not hesitate to give this company my money again.

Like APC's. Most people do, and they are very popular with the business community. At any rate check out "Conext" brand. I found a 900VA unit at Circuit City for $139.95 (there was also a 700VA unit for $20 less.) This looks identical to the APC BackUps Pro line (except the wording is different on the four LED's), has AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation), the label on the shelf said it was made by APC, I have found websites that say it is made by APC and to cap things off I bought one and it actually comes with "APC's" PowerChute Plus software. Lastly it comes with a 2-year warranty and a $50,000 connected equipment guarantee.

I have two 900AVR's. Both have worked flawlessly for well over a year. Easy to use software. I've been on the computer many times during a power glitch. The units kick in so fast and smoothly, you'd never know there was a glitch (except for your lights going out!) :D
I highly recommend them and would buy them again if the need arose.
