When the scammers want to arrange a "mover" to come pick up the merchandise, is anyone else tempted to give them a false address (of an abandoned warehouse) and beat the snot out of the "mover"?

That's where I cleaned up a few years ago. When I got married and my wife moved in she had a boatload of Crate & Barrel furniture we put up and every single piece sold in a week at asking price. Which is why I think it has a lot to do with the current economy and some to do with Craiglist's bad image in the media. My wife refuses to let the buyers in our apartment these days because of all the murder stories. Lucky my building has a conference room I can schedule.

I keep a loaded pistol in the small of my back when I answer the door. :awe:

That's not how it works. What happens is they send you an email promising to buy the item unseen, and throw an additional $20 or so on top to keep them in favor and for you to remove the post. They then send you a money order for the wrong amount, so if it's a $200 item they send a (fake) check or money order for $500. When you get the payment they send you an email telling you their assistant screwed up and mixed payment with another item. They request you then wire back the difference. Eventually your bank rejects their payment so you're out the difference and get hit with a bad check fee. These people are not even in the country (mostly Nigeria), nor do they ever try to collect the item.

It's a really shitty scam that can go wrong for them in so many places. I am amazed that they are still trying to pull it off but it probably means people are still falling for it. The emails they send are practically word-for-word identical to what they have been sending for years now.

I'm not. 95% of the users where I work have less brain cells than this guy:

CL for me has been fairly ok. Just recently I picked a pair of brand new 2009 burton T6 for a cool $240, which amounts to $120 a board. Lowest I've seen these sell for is $350 used. I asked why she was selling these and was told that she doesn't snowboard and was given these as xmas presents. Clearly she doesn't know her sb.

I used Craigslist twice to find renters.. Looking for 2 total renters with two posts (one last year, one this year), found 3. No picture.. just a description.. barely put any effort into it. Renters so far have been awesome.. always pay on time.. responsible..

I'd say my experience with Craigslist has been awesome.

Sold my Infiniti and Mazda6 on CL. Also sold a digital camera and bought a lot of audio equipment and other things on it as well. Got my last 2 jobs, and last 2 apts there. Just recently I bought a Nexus one phone on CL for $420.

I've noticed that there are a lot of phony posts about apartments for rent... especially from the buy foreclosed properties people. They are pretty easy to spot.
