Posted a couple of guitars on Craigslist, both got responses pretty quickly asking if the item was still for sale. When I replied yes both sent this reply:

I have already gone through the details and i am interested in purchasing. I will be paying by Money Order and you should receive the payment within this week as per pick-up, I will make arrangement with the moving company to come for pick-up after payment has been received by you. l would appreciate if you take the posting off craigslist today and consider it sold to me. Idon't mind adding Extra $40 so you can keep it in my favor. Please provide your Name and address for payment along with your home phone number band cell phone number .My assistant will mail out the payment to your address Once payment is received we can proceed with the pickup. Thanks for your understanding and patience.Do have a nice time...waiting to read from you ASAP.
Regards,
Thank

Sure, right after that you can come over my house and **** my sister

Also, all the legit inquires were for really crappy trades "Wanna trade your $600 guitar for my $120 beat up Squire?!?" or insane lowballers, "I'll give you $100, I'm doing you a favor here".

I don't remember it being this bad. Back in 2007 or so I pawned a bunch of stuff off with no hassles at all. What happened? The economy? All the normal people bailed after the Craigslist killer and rapists ruined the site's name? What a shame.

Yeah, 3 years ago it was great. I even got my current job there. My boss still thinks its the place to be, he posted an IT job there (my assistant) I had 769 resumes within a week. 750 of them were unqualified.

This is one of those things that varies by location and what you're selling/buying. I haven't had any issues with lowballers or scam artists. Then again, most of the items I've sold/bought have been $40 or less. The only thing over $100 I've ever bought was a bicycle ($125 I think it was).
There's also the possibility that your item is priced too high, or no one who understands its value is looking at it. What can you do but keep posting it.

Selling used stuff is almost worthless these days. People expect to pay next to nothing, and everything in general has gone so low in price that people are more likely to just buy new. Computers are a good example. It's totally worthless trying to sell a computer that is a few years old unless you practically give it away, since you can get them so cheap now, new, with warranty, legit software, and all.

It's a crap shoot really... Depends on the item, but I would say 50:50 you will net a buyer that will a.) give you close to what you're asking, and b.) will actually make arrangments to finish the deal.

Its craigslist. You go to craigslist to pawn off useless stuff that is taking up space that you want to have. Getting any decent money off of it should be your *last* concern.

If making money off it is important to you then go to eBay and set a minimum bid or go to a site dedicated to selling acoustic instruments.

Perhaps I have been lucky, but I've *never* had anyone try to haggle price with me. In all my transactions so far (as seller and buyer) the purchase has been made with cash at the originally requested amount. In terms of people not following up on inquires, that's happened to me twice. Once when I was trying to buy something (seller had a family issue come up then never responded about setting up a different meeting time) and once selling a dirt cheap laptop ( but enough people asked that I got a seller within 24 hours.

I've actually had more issue when posting stuff for free. In those cases it has been for more common for someone to ask about picking an item up and then never follow up.

Does anyone know if eBay local works? Don't want to ship guitars.

This. You can also try posting it here at For Sale/Trade

I've had nothing but luck with CL. I usually have buyer within a day, usually less.
I sold an old motherboard the other day for $45. Posted the ad around 6:30pm had the money less than 2 hours later. :)

That's normal.

When you get 769 responses, and 750 are qualified, you'll know the economy is perfectly fucked.

I sold my car on CL last month, it had some problems but the guy said he could fix them. a week later I get a call from him saying the car caught on fire and was totaled. Had I kept the car that would have been me, but instead I got $1,250 for the car

<3 Craigslist, and I've sold a few dozen other things on there since.

Can't say how it is as a seller, but as a buyer I'm still happy. Got a used (but like new) copy of Darksiders for $30. Got an alright bass amp for $35.

Also OP, after he's done with her can I fuck your sister next?

Yeah... Craigslist sucks. I posted my old TV on there, and got about a dozen spam e-mails. I also got three people who said they were interested in the TV, but never showed up.

I guess you guys haven't run into the assholes that flag your ad simply because its competes with theirs.

I've never had troubles selling stuff on craigslist. I usually get a few offers and no spammers. I've never had a no show or anything like that.

Wow, have not heard of that one. Just got a semi-serious inquiry. Waiting to get a reply involving a money order. If so, I am going to fly to Nigeria to personally shove the guitar up the guy's ass

Other than one or two experiences on craigslist all my others have been poor. Not scamming but people are just fvcking morons. I was even giving one item away and the stupid idiot never showed up like twice to pick it up after I had it in a bag on my front porch. My problem is assuming the people I'm dealing with are not complete retards. It's a problem I have giving the benefit of the doubt on the outset.
