Is this normal?

CPU temp = 47 degrees celsius & System temp = 35 degrees celcius at idle speed in BIOS.

Brand spankin new AMD Athlon 2400+ (266MHz FSB) with DFI AD77 (KT400) MoBo.
And both sides are off with only the keyboard, monitor, 1 stick of 512mb ddr ram and video card plugged in (no HDDs, nuthin!). There is also 1 exhaust fan running next to the cpu.

Any suggestions?

TIA

p.s. If I bought a new fan/heatsink, whats the best/safest way to get the thermal goo off the cpu?

I'm typically 42-46C idle, so you aren't that bad, AND I'm using one of the most elaborately crazy HSF's ever :)...

All the hig-end Athlons and P4 CPUs put out alot of heat. 45-51°C idles temps are not uncommon.

My XP 1800 system with stock heat sick idles at 53°C on hot days, will get to 61 after a long gaming session. Its perfectly stable so I don't worry about it.
