Is cottage cheese that is "sell by March 8th" no good anymore?

I got in the end of Feb and opened it... so its been open in my fridge for about three weeks. I was gonna use it up now, but its about 10 days past "sell by" date....
 
technically its already rotten milk, so you just have to go by taste, it won't make you sick
taste it, if it tastes ok to you, then you can eat it
 
I just finished a gallon of mild that said "sell by Mar. 12." It didn't smell, so I assumed it was ok. I think it's ok as long as it doesn't smell rotten.
