I'm living near boston right now and i'm interviewing for a job in Southbury connecticutt (western part of connecticutt). Is this a nice place to live? Is rent/housing cheaper in connecticutt than massachusetts? Is it fun/boring?

NW part of Conn in nice and fairly cheaper (relatively)

Southbury is starting to get into the expensive areas.

Spill over from the NYC area.

Conn has high taxes.

Check the local papers for estimated living costs.

Funny that you are interviewing in Connecticut. I have an interview in Woburn, right outside Boston on Monday. The western part of Connecticut is scenic, kinda quiet though. In my opinion it is fairly boring, have to make quite an effort to go out and have fun. I'm sure housing would be quite a bit cheaper there than in or near Boston.

edit: curious, are you interviewing with IBM by any chance? A friend of mine used to work there.

CT is not a very good state for Young ppl. In fact it sucks. There is nothing to do but the same old same old. Its very hard to meet ppl and its really just highways and malls. We dont even have a legitamate ocean front beach.(thanks long island)

the only thing going for CT is the casinos.

Honestly I am trying to leave this horrible ass state as soon as possible.

A good friend of mine moved there when he took a job as a high school physics teacher- great school systems, great area, a great place to raise a family... but he was 25, single, and bored out his mind so he moved to Boston.

CT = $$. Cheapest apartment I've found is $700, no utilities.

The Southbury facility is real phatty.

Yeah, the only two big things in Southbury are IBM and Hertiage Village. Server farms and a retirement community... Odd combination :)

Unfortunately, there is nothing to DO around here, and the cost of living is insane. Premium gas is over $2.35 a gallon in the Southbury/Woodbury area, a 12 oz can of soda out of the vending machine costs 85 cents, and a two bedroom apartment in a decent area will set you back over $1,000 a month.

Notice that I said DECENT area... You'll see a lot of cheap real estate in nearby Waterbury, but it's a run down hellhole of a city with insanely high property taxes and a high crime rate. Danbury and New Haven are much nicer and have fun things to do, but are a 30 minute drive away.

I think he liked the job, just was unfortunately caught up in a layoff they had a few years back.

There is a lot of good climbing in the middle of the state if you like that. Plus from Southbury the Gunks aren't too far away.
