Hi,

My dad's pc (specs below) had been giving temperature warnings (stating that the fan was not working) for sometime and now it seems to have died (he claims cpu looks deformed/"soldered on") and the system won't power up.

Is there anything that can be done to save the PC? Or is he better off purchasing a new one?

Any suggestions/help greatly appreciated.

pc specs:
(HP mediacentre m7640n, Dual-core 2.6 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ processor Socket AM2, 250 GB hard drive, 2 GB PC2 4200 DDR2 SD RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6150LE video card (256 MB shared), Windows Vista Premium, ASUS A8M2N-LA mobo)

Thanks,

Pics of CPU would be helpful, but it sounds like the cpu and probably the motherboard are beyond repair. Time for new parts.

I'll try to post some pics in the coming days, unfortunately I'm in a different city so it's not feasible now. Thanks for your help Spunky Jones.

Some OEM builders will not use fans on some of their systems. They will just install a huge heatsink. Not sure about your system. Yes, the pics will help.
