Is Comodo Dragon a good browser?

I've been using some of Comodo's free security apps, mainly their firewall. I like it because it's easy to configure (you have 3 levels of protection to choose from), and so far, it's worked for me.

When I was on their site today, I noticed their browser, Comodo Dragon. Of course, it's really Google Chrome with a bit of a face lift. Being curious as I am, I decided to try it out. This browser is really fast, especially if one selects the option to show links while typing in the search box. And when you click onto a link, it's there. No wonder Google's picking up market share.

My question is, is this a safe browser? Speed is excellent, but not at the cost of security. My default browser is FF 5, but lately, they're updating so fast, and my add ons aren't always working, at least at first.

Anyone has any experience with this browser?

BTW, Comodo has their Internet Security Pro 2011, FREE for 1 YEAR!

That's a good deal for anyone who needs an IS, but lacks the cash at this time. The link is good, because I have it installed inside of XP Mode.

There is nothing good about Comodo's firewall or security apps. I would recommend that you do some research and reading of their products before you put all your eggs in one basket. Also what operating system are you running? If Vista/Win7 - the built in firewall is sufficient - there's really no reason to install a 3rd party app.

As for Comodo's browser, I have no opinions/experience with it. I avoid Comodo like the plague. Everything from the behavior of their CEO and their products turn me off completely.

I don't know why you say that. I use the free Comodo HIPS. It is so much much better than Windows Firewall, that the two can't be reasonably compared.

No one serious about system security would rely on just Windows. 3rd party applications are essential for a layered defense.

I never used Comodo Dragon, but if it's based on Chrome, it should be OK. Like all browsers, I would still run it through Sandboxie, unless the site I'm visiting is trusted.

Actually, I don't put all of my eggs in one basket. On my main Windows OS's, XP & 7, ESET NOD32 is my choice of AV, I was just looking for a more secure firewall, and feel that I have one in Comodo.

I did install the free suite on XP Mode, but that's not my main OS, it's just there as a testing OS. I run things on it before installing it on my main OS's.

The Dragon browser, I've just installed, and it's not my default browser, I only use it for web searching, not to access email programs or making transactions. I would still like to hear some opinions on it.

Or mabye I should simply install Chrome instead? At least I'll know I'll be getting the latest version, which is one of the things that I'd like to know about Dragon.

I've never used it but i am still suspicious of google chrome and it's relatives because of the amount of tracking/data mining it does when you use it.
I used to use comodo firewall and it was pretty good when i used to have xp but now i just use the built in one in 7.

If you want to, try Chromium. That's Chrome's open variant that's had the tracking stuff removed. I'm not a fan, but a lot of people like it. It's still Firefox and Opera for me.

I normally browse with FF. My Chrome install is on a limited account in W7 that didn't need elevation to install. When I use it, I only use the incognito mode, and then, only sandboxed. I'm pretty sure they don't get much private data from me.

Ummm... yeah ok. You've twisted my words around to the point where it's convoluted. I was addressing catilley1092 original post in regards to firewalls. I never said that 3rd party applications are not required. It's obvious if you're running windows, you need some type of A/V protection. A layered protection is good -- whether you want to use Windows firewall as one of those components or not is up to the individual. For the vast majority of the users out there, the builtin windows firewall is good enough. There is nothing special about Comodo's HIPS feature - if that's a requirement for the user, there are comparable free alternatives. The HIPS feature is not a requirement for a secure PC depending on variables such as the type of security programs isntalled and router configuration (if there is one in place).
