The difference in COD2 is big enough that I wouldn't settle for DX7.

You would if you tried the performance between the two; DX7 is about four times faster, if not more. DX9 is a slideshow on just about everything at just about every decent setting.

I've played through the whole game on DX7 and it still looked gorgeous with everything cranked and a fast framerate. At no time did I fell like I was missing anything.
