Southwest Airlines (up $0.20 to $15.21, Research) spokeswoman Marilee McInnis told the Gazette-Journal that the airline's contract with the Federal Aviation Administration contains rules that say the airline will deny boarding to any customer whose conduct is offensive, abusive, disorderly or violent or for clothing that is "lewd, obscene, or patently offensive."

FAA spokesman Donn Walker told the newspaper that no federal rules exist on the subject.

"It's up to the airlines who they want to take and by what rules," he was quoted as saying. "The government just doesn't get into the business of what people wear on an aircraft."

The title should have been that Southwest are lying ASSHOLES. They love to deny boarding, have you ever watched airline? One glass of wine and your ass is banned from flying and then escorted from the terminal if you complain.

"and a phrase similar to the popular film title 'Meet the Fockers'."

From this I thought it actually said "Fvckers"

She's an idiot anyway. Just turn the shirt inside out. If it did have the "u" instead of the "o" Southwest had every right to do that.

Yes they had the right, but like douches they LIED and claimed the FAA made them do it. Second, how does replacing the u with an o make it less offensive? A word is a word.

While I agree that a word is a word, the same argument can be made that a boob is a boob. Society has decided that with the "u" it is offensive. You can get fined $200k for saying the word on the radio or TV.

They should have told the truth and still not allowed her to board.

That's not true that society decided that. The FCC in conjunction with a vocal minority of US Citizens decided for the bulk of us that certain words were too offensive for the airways. Because of this, people have made that applicable to other things as well.

Southwest has the right to do whatever they want -- they're a private company, but pawning if off on the FAA is absolutely asinine.

No, they couldn't have, and that's my point. To advertise inevitably requires using a medium than the FCC regulates. The FCC has decided that it must protect the public from naughty things, so it does. It doesn't matter than a vocal minority of religious nutjobs pushed them into that corner now does it?
