Is Clerks black and white?

I've been watching the movie (divx rip) for like 13 minutes now and it's in black and white... Is the movie supposed to be in black and white?

Is that really the reason? I mean, it's still in b&w when they play hockey on the roof and drive to the funeral, instances where there is no security camera. I thought it was just a stylistic decision.

Yes, but it *looks* like it's through a security camera.
 
I know one movie I'm glad I didn't see in a hi-fi theatre.. lol.. This movie would look just as good playing over realplayer at 56kbps.. But, it's funny as hell.
 
anyone notice in the credits of that movie, there's two sound editors:

goes something like this:

"initial incompetent sound editor"
"replacement sound editor"

You people realize that Clerks was Kevin Smith's first movie, was fully indy, and cost a mere $27,575 -- most of which came from Smith's personal credit cards?
 
It's black and white because they only had something like a few thousand dollars to make the movie (either way, it was VERY low), and the camera was on loan from a fellow film student that was in school w/ Kevin Smith. Subsequent films had a real budget and could afford color film.

Seriously. Look it up in google, or watch An Evening With Kevin Smith.

EDIT: deleted my original numbers for budget. I remember it being ludicrously low, I guess I remembered a bit lower than the real budget, but it was still hilariously low for an entire movie.

That's bs... B&W film was cheaper and it was also a stylistic decision too.. Most security cameras are video - they would have shot with video if they wanted to look like a video camera..

I think he's saying that to all the people say it was done to look like a security camera. Thats not the reason and false. It was done for budget reasons. All the people in the film were basically friends also.

Correct, well that and the fact that the thief watching the downloaded version said he was glad he didn't watch it in the theater...
