I'm still hooked on civ3. My pc won't get past the middle ages if I try civ4.

I still enjoy civ3 as well as RON & AOM, and my pc can't even play civ4.

I would vote #4, but I know why I'm not playing it. It just sits on that intro screen, where the clouds are moving across the Earth. Won't go any further no matter what keys I hit or how long I wait.

I still enjoy RoN and the expansion as well, although I don't have them installed at the moment.

Rome: Total War also still steals a good bit of my life. "Triarii!" Right on.

This happens to me on occasion...the main menu on that screen you've mentioned just doesn't show up. Exiting the game and going back in fixes it, though. At least in my case.

Haven't played civs before, but Civ4 is dangerously addictive. I was playing earlies for a couple hours then stopped before the game finished...can't let it take over my life. I vow never to play it again...until tomorrw.

To be honest, no. I bought it when it came out, played it a couple times, and haven't touched it since.

Yes, I was up till 6 am yesterday fighting the goddamn Greeks. The spearmen in Athens kept kicking my macemens' asses even when the odds were like 13 to 7 in my favor. WTF. Then the Japanese keep building right on my fscking borders... you want to go Tokugawa? I will go genocidal on your ass as soon as Sparta's down. Man. Great game.

I thought Civ3 pwned, then I went to RON and never looked back. AoE wasn't too bad though.

Agreed, I loved Civ 3...but RoN was more fun for me.

Civ 4 is owning everything, though. It's insane how much of my life it's conquered.

Most people that loved Civ 3 are having to slowly warm up to Civ 4, but the hardcore Civ 1 & 2 fans have been immediately infatuated. That seems to be the general trend, anyways.

A question about Civ4. I am intersted in getting Civ 4 but only if it doesn't prove to be too large of a leraning cure for someone new to the seriese. So does Civ4 offer enought in the way of a game manual and or tutorial mode(s) to make it easy for a beginner to get into.

Note: I'm not put off by complex games, just complex ones that don't offer any help.

They always come with a thick manual. This time it's a spiral bound I believe. :)

I played the original on my snes for what seemed like years. I enjoyed 2 so much that so when I wasn't near a pc, I bought the ps1 version.

Civ3 expanded alot like improved trading, actual boarders, as opposed to stacking cities like checkers(you all hated it when they would build a city smack int eh middle of your empire), more ways to win, & many more units. The things bad about it where the useless multiplayer(in the beginning), the silly throne room, pollution, & like all the rest, cheating AI. They had to cheat, because there was no real way to make the game harder besides giving them more units, easier builds, & the whole map from the beginning.

Civ4 looks a bit dumbed down for the masses, but it will consume my life just like all the rest. I get the most entertainment by being a builder, so you know how I torture myself. I can win most any other way, in any age, but I like to usually create a real empire before I do anything else. Unless I'm caught on a ridiculous pangea map. Then it's just all out war.

No man,, thing's easy,, besides there is an IN Game CIVICOPEDIA, it explains everything that you might need to know about. The manual isn't much help, play the TUTORIAL, hands on training is much better.
It'd also help if u get a CIV Veteran friend to help u get started. Thats what i did, and i had to scrap him outta my chair with a spoon before i could play myself, his comp can't run it. He just got so addicted the half hour he played at my house. he's at that internet lounge in town all the time now
