Is Circuit City going to pull out of the rut they're in?

I'd really like them to stay around, for I feel that they're the better retail store over Best Buy.

If its a chapter 7 its a liquidation a 11 is a reorganization. Im guessing they filed a 11 because they kept a few stores open. I have seen a lot more commercials for them lately so they may be trying to rebrand themselves. Its tough to say if thell come out or not. Many times a ch11 can just be a drawn out death.

I bet they'll be fine. There's probably going to be some serious restructuring going on to reduce overhead.

They've been rebranding themselves "The City" for the past year or so. Haven't really changed much signage though, but if you look on their flyers, "Circuit" is really small and "City" is prominent.

I think they will be gone. I have a $110 giftcard and can;t even use it as they are so overpriced on so much.

I tried to buy a reciever but even with my gift card it is still cheaper to buy from amazon.com with no gift card/coupon.

Eh, never cared for the store. Their stupid "try to find a salesperson to take your money" method sucks.

Feel free to send it to me. I can help you spend it before it's worth less than the pressed paper it's on ;)

I wish circuit city and worst buy would die. At least then people might finally realize that paying 30% more than you need to for computer equipment does not make one cool. Oh wait, by those standards, Apple computers should die too.

Don't you remember all the airlines that filed for bankruptcy protection a few years ago? I think K-Mart did a few years ago as well. There's probably a lot of other big companies that have done this in recent years that I'm forgetting.

Ahahahaha...you called it Worst Buy, when in fact it is called Best Buy, implying the opposite meaning of their name. Man, I gotta tell the fellas at the office about that one.

Have you been to Best Buy lately or are you just saying this? Their computer and TV prices are pretty damned competitive. I know the Dell dual core laptop I just got a couple of weeks ago from Best Buy was $100 less expensive than the Dell website + coupon sold it for. The only thing they suck on is cables and accessories (which they make their $$$ on).

You have to pay a premium to be able to pick up what you want in the store. When you think about buying something online, you save sales tax & shipping is sometimes free... But if you have a problem with your purchase, you have to call India or deal with mailing back a large item for service. It's nice to have the stores around to help support the products they sell.

Circuit City has a lot of stores and the problem is that many of them are in dying areas. For example, the past 5 years has caused a lot more separation of wealth in the US and I've seen a lot of malls that used to be filled with people start to fade. Circuit City likes to find these area and put stores within a few blocks of the malls. The problem is that with competition for fewer customers, they've got a lot of underperforming stores that need to close their doors. It's just hard to shut down a store when it's holding so much inventory and still doing some business.

Circuit City will likely go through with closing the doors on the stores that aren't moving inventory anymore and will bounce back. They'll likely have less profits, but will be in better shape unless the stock market returns to the levels we were at in 1999 before the .com bust. That's when most of the stores were built that aren't performing well.

This. Also, I would rather buy retail and take my shiny new toy home same-day, rather than waiting 4-10 days for it to arrive on my doorstep... while nobody's home... just left there on my porch... with a giant "COMPUTER COMPANY!" logo on it.

They filed Ch. 11 iirc.

Personally, I hope they are successful with their reform for two reasons. First, we need more jobs right now so if they fail and are forced to file Ch. 7 in the future then it will be nothing but a bad thing for this economy.

Second, they were not doing a good job compared to their competitors and I would like for that to change. More strong competition is nothing but a good thing for us consumers in this case.
