Is Circuit City becoming the Tiger Direct?

I acquired a $500 gift certificate for circuit city through our rewards program at work. I went to circuit city and found myself in Rebate Heaven. I felt like I was in the physical version of Tiger Direct. Computers, Laptops, Peripherals...etc most everything I wanted had a rebate. Not like it really matters since I have a Gift Card but its kind of annoying that you have to buy stuff on the "8 week wait" sale price.

BTW what would you buy at circuit city with $500? I was thinking a laptop and covering the rest or another 19" monitor and a 500gb external drive.

Or should I flip the gift card on ebay...

You probably have'nt heard rebatecity aka circuitcity

While most retailers are trying to get out of them, it seems kind of like a policy that CC will not sell anything without a rebate. 8 weeks - thats pretty decent if you get your rebate from them in 8 weeks.

Online orders are more of a hassle - most common rebate invalid reason- invalid ticket no.

then begin the phone calls to their rebate center, go through the hoops of picking options and finally get a human being who will rectify the situation for you by just removing the "-" between the 2 parts of the order no. and replace it with a "0"

such a waste of time and money

At one point, they atleast did have kudos for good customer service, this mornings newspaper article killed them on bad customer service

Circuit City is better than Worst Buy. I've never had any problems with CC rebates either.

I seem to like the Staples paperless system. You can fill stuff out online. I bought a neat paper shredder with a rebate.
Anybody have any feedback as far as Staples?

Staples EasyRebates are how all rebates should be done.

I'm dealing with a CC rebate issue as we speak. I will do my best just to order from Costco from now on.

I have to give kudos to Best Buy & OfficeMax-they have seemed to have eliminated mail in rebates.

I've had pretty good luck with Circuit City rebates. If you want a rebate you should never count on, it's for Brother printers. I've been waiting 6 months for a rebate I sent in for a Brother laser printer. Every time I email about the status they keep sending a form email saying it will ship on some date that is a week later.

Odd because last time I went to circuit city (like 2 years ago and i moved further away) it was not like this. Im gonna sell the gift card and get better deals w/ no rebates and best buy which is 15 miles closer.
