Actually Cingular is still TDMA in St Louis, judging by looking at their current phone offerings. They should be GSM by the end of the year, if not sooner. It can be either in the 850 or 1900 - US carriers use both. The areas in which Cingular was an original A or B side carrier (850) will be built GSM 850, and other areas will be built in the 1900 band. It really depends on what type of licenses that they have. Let me know if you have any questions, I follow the wireless industry and Cingular in particular pretty closely :)

Thanks for the correct answer erub, once Cingular goes GSM here whats the difference between the 850 and 1900mhz zones? Do each of these zones have different compatible phones? I really wanted a PDA phone like the Handspring Treo and would rather buy one off ebay than sign another contract with anyone, could i then do this? THANKS SO MUCH!! I have tried to find answers but you sound like the first intelligent person around.
