Is chip dying?

I had it at 12.5 x 184 @ 2300 1.65V. THen motherboard died Asus A7n8x dlx rev. 1.02....got new rev 2.0. Unable to post at same setting and forces me to reset cmos. Running at 12.5 x 166 1.5V. Why can't I do the same overclock as before? Is the chip dying?
 
This sounds dumb because I'm dumb. But I run for a week at stock settings and make the chip feel comfortable before beginning to change things. Why? An example -I overclock too high, reset the cmos, reset settings, set the fsb and multi to LOWER than the overclocked settings I had before on same chip and mobo and sometimes if the new settings are higher than stock, no post. I have to go from stock settings up or no stability and I have to have stability.

This has only happened a few times but enough to give me a feeling that you go from stock up. Electron migration, burnin - I call it luck.

Probably because when the CMOS got reset, you didn't reset your voltages...
