Is changing belts on a 2 stage snowblower difficult?

I left my snowblower in the service position for about a year. Some of the oil leaked out and I think got the belts oil soaked. Now it takes very little snow to stop the auger from turning and I thought I smelled burning rubber so I know what that means..

It's a Toro promax 1028 model 38640. It's about 4 years old with a tecumshe engine for some reason Toro doesn't have the online parts manual for it.

All the videos on you tube seem to be for one stage blowers.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I just priced the two belts at a dealership, they are $35 and $25 for the auger/impeller belts. Can I get much cheaper belts at a hardware store or is that even a good idea?

That First link is perfect. Step by step with pictures and I don't need to split the snow blower in half.

Thank you.

What do you mean by Service position?
I just put the base on a cement block to relieve the pressure on the wheels and a 4x4 under the scoop area.

The links are broken due to a spam filter issue on this site**

Generally speaking, most snow blowers consist of 2 halves** The back half consists of the engine, transmission, wheels, and handle** The front section consists of the impeller and auger** They couple by four bolts: two bottom shoulder bolts act as hinge pins, and two top bolts hold it in the closed position**

For my 1977 Yard Man, you have to slip the auger belt off the engine sheave before hinging the front from the back** After that, you will be able to hinge the two halves apart** The front belt is very easy to replace** The rear belt (engine sheave to transmission sheave) take just a little effort**

I've replaced them with automotive belts and have had no issues** Just get the correct size and dimensions**
