now directors use cgi just because its trendy, so its everywhere

and now it is a trend to use CGI in an almost comical surreal way. Add to the direction of the movie sometimes. So it also depends on how the director wants it used.

CGI on the whole is getting better every year. Example: Spiderman I vs. Spiderman II.

Jurassic park used robotic dinosaurs a lot. A lot of stuff now pure computer graphics, which could account for what you are talking about.

CGI is getting better but so many directors/producers/whoever use too much of it in their movies which makes the whole movie seem fake. It's great when used properly.
