Is Centrino Duo different than Core 2 Duo?

From my understanding and own theorization, Centrino is the wifi technology that is integrated into the motherboard or cpu one of the two. My laptop came with a sticker that says Core 2 Duo inside and then at the bottom Centrino Duo.

Correct, intel pushes a combination of core 2 CPU + intel motherboard chipset + intel wifi card as being "centrino," but the processor is the same core 2 as in another laptop that uses a different brand of wifi card.

Yes!
But not in any way that really matters.

It all depends (and I can't believe I am on Vin's side on this one...) on whether they actually mean Core 2 Duo, or Core Duo since I have seen Core Duos that were branded as Centrino Duo, and of course Core 2 Duos are branded as Centrino Duos (if they meet all the requirements of course. Apple laptops would be branded as such if A: Apple put stickers on their computers B: They didn't use Atheros wireless cards)

So... yes, Centrino Duo can be different from Core 2 Duo, and also in the since that a lone ship is different from the entire navy. Centrino is the whole navy, core 2 duo is the lone ship.

Also, Core 2 is 64 bit, and can vary from 667-800MHz FSB, whereas Core is 32 bit and is solely 667MHz FSB (someone feel free to jump in if they ever made a 533MHz FSB model). Core uses the GMA950 video chipset, Core 2 can use that or the newer X3100 video chipset. The list goes on.

T7100 - T7700 = C2D mobile, socket p meroms

T5XXXX = core duo mobile socket 479 T meroms

Socket P = penryn support
Socket T = no penryn support

I know its kinda confusing but think of it like AMD and S939 and AM2

The new socket p boardsd would be like AM2 and Socket T like 939

Nope, it is 32... it is essentially a dual core Pentium M. The Core 2 Duo is the first true implementation of the newer Core Architecture, which of course makes it all the more confusing.

Here's what I have on Socket M vs. Socket P

All Yonah Core Solo, Core Duo, Celeron-M 4xx series = Socket M, no 64 bit
Celeron-M 5xx series, C2D T5200, T5300, T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400, T7600 = Socket M, 64 bit
C2D T5250, T5450, T7100, T7250, T7300, T7500, T7700, T7800, X7800, X7900 = Socket P, 64 bit
Pentium Dual Core T2310, T2330, T2370 = Socket P, 64 bit

Centrino Duo only means there's a dual core mobile CPU with appropriate chipset and wireless.
