is photoshop performance much different on these value chips compared to pentium/athlon?

I am not a big Photoshopper, but AFAIK it is more dependant on memory than CPU. That being said, a faster CPU woudn't hurt, but I think a decent Celeron/Sempron will run PS at least okay.

I am not sure if the really low l1 and l2 cache have much of an effect since often times you are working with picture much much larger then could fit ont he cache....Therefore I would say lare amounts of ram 512mb min to 1gb should help there....

CPU come more into play when you process the pictures with filters and whatnot...

IN most instancea celeron D can be sizeably slower then same speed non cleron Inel offering...The semprons fair a bit better IMO when compared to the regular A64 lineup...

Wait till april 23rd. Intel is reducing prices on pentium D 8xx and 9xx lines by UP TO HALF to clear inventory for its new processors starting then. Your best bet for working with photoshop is waiting til then and picking up a tremendously undercut dual core.

good point since newer versions of photoshop are SMP aware..there is a rcent BM we did on this forum that shows this well...
