After being in the IT sector for a while, what should i go into, to get the highest salary possible? Are there more Networking jobs available, or programming?

Thanks

Right now, Network Security will earn you the big dollars.

However, that job requires extensive knowledge and years of experience... but it's something to strive for. :)

Other then Network Security, what would i go into that pays around the 100 k range after 10 years experience? and in 3 years, what would be the probable sector in IT which will be in demand?

If you want to start with 50k/yr, you have to go to a 4-year university. There's no shortcut.

Start salaries for comp degrees from places like MIT or Stanford or Rice or Northwestern or what not are just 50 - 60k/yr anyway. That's after putting >100k/yr into a 4 year education.

I would personally lean toward a community college; more likely accredited, and if you decide to go to a 4 year school (i.e. transfer), you can easily do so from a CC.

Actually, now that I think about it, he probably wants to make $50k/year in canadian dollars. Which is hardly anything....

<rant>The only thing i was able to attain from their networking program, well aside from a large debt, was A job that in no way shape or form was related to the field I studied I loaded paper into printers, for 6 months at a terrible company. As far as their program went it was a total joke you are by far and away going to benefit from going to community college where you can study technical and other courses of interest. In college you will be able to complete A better degree in 2 years that will have you more set for the job market if you are willing to work hard and not take summers off which is all CDI does to get you your degree that fast. I am saying this now as an experienced grad Of that "school" DO NOT ATTEND THERE!! PM me for more info i will also be willing to put you in touch with many more grads from CDI who will tell you the same.</rant>

EDIT: I would also like to add the value of a well rounded education such as The courses in english, and math which you may not think you need at the moment but become as useful as all your other skills in the long run.

Please take my advice as someone who was sucked in by their marketing and then sold a useless education at a very expensive price.

what are your marks like? did you take OAC?

remember that we're coming upon the double cohort year so it could be a bit sketchy if you're trying to do anything come september.

FACE IT you are going to have to go to a decent school and put in the time to get a good job.
In a tough job market you will be facing qualified educated people with years of experience.
All you can offer is a decent education when you come out, and you will most likely start in about $25,000 if your any good usually your salary will jump quickly.
If you want to make $100G you will need a degree and rise to a position of management somewhere along the way.

Thanks guys, i made my choice

Im going to john abbott for the 3 year course, Then, if thats not good enough, im going to go to unversity or something, sounds like a plan?

The Course offered there is Computer Science Technoligies. Is that what i should take if i want to be a computer networker/programmer? will it get me enough to do both?

Thanks for your help again,
Carl
