is CarFax worth the money?

It will show everyone that has owned the title to the car and if it was ever totaled/in an accident. Maybe more too, someone who has a subscription could help you a little more than I can with the details.

it won't tell you if a claim wasn't made. so the dumbass woman who was on the news here who used carfax and later found out her car was flooded wasn't covered. of course, she found out because there was WATER IN THE TRUNK!

It's only $24. If you are looking for a used car it could save you a ton of headaches, you could probably make the money back by charging your witless friend to run checks for him.

It's unreliable. My car was wrecked several years ago. I ran the VIN recently, and it didn't show up. There was close to $6,000 worth of damage done to that car, but because the airbag didn't deploy it wasn't considered a 'serious' accident and didn't get reported to carfax. Anybody wanna buy a car?

Same here. Totaled truck 2 1/2 years ago. It doesn't show. Same with my wife's car. $6500 in damage 1 1/2 years ago. Again, no show. Waste of money.

Instead of 24$ spend probably less than 100$ and get a body mand and a mechanic to give it a quick once over . . .

I was going to repond to your PM but here we go,

My mom has a 2000 Kia, 2 accidents according to Carfax it has 0.

I went to buy a car today, took my mechanic with me Carfax says no problems. As soon as he saw it he told me no because it has been it accidents.

Its been worth it for me, but than again I want to make sure the car is fine by seeing its history & having a mechanic look at it.

carfax is highly unreliable.. i dont even know why they have their service..

car fax said my car was clean on title.. but it was involved in an accidnet and repainted.. the dealer didnt know it was repainted cause its a such a close match but it really isnt a match. when you try the color match paint it dont match.

Anycase.. carfax is a peice of crap.. ofcassionaly you find free carfax reports for a day on hotdeals.

I think it's worth the $25 or so when you are considering purchasing a vehicle for several thousands of dollars. That $25 could potentially save you from a $10K to $20K mistake.

edit it so that you're not asking to borrow a carfax account or whatever, otherwise it will be locked.

good luck though!

Guy I know had $17000 damage on a Accord with only 9000 miles. Dealership repaired it. Carfax was clean. He then waited a few months and traded it back to the dealership without them even remembering the repair job.
