Is calling someone a Nazi civil or is it vitriol?

It seems as though conversations, especially online ones drift towards the slinging of the term Nazi. Godwin's law is a thing, and it's pretty disgusting.

I'm of the mind that this behavior not only lacks civility but displays vitriol. What are your guys thoughts?

If someone is an actually Nazi, then it doesn't lack civility and isn't vitriol at all. Do keep in mind however that while all Nazis all are Fascist, not all Fascists are Nazis.

True. Wouldn't they get to decide if they are a Nazi or not? What if they're not an actual Nazi nor do they represent any qualities that could be confused with a Nazi. Seems pretty vitriol to me.

I agree that the term "Nazi" gets thrown around a lot, and folks have been accused of being one when they are nowhere even close to it.

I wouldn't care what someone else thinks of me whether they call me a Nazi or anything else. Though to be civil means to speak politely and resorting to childish name calling is far from polite. Even if someone is an actual Nazi, let them associate themselves to the group, it's trivial to accuse.

I call fascists fascists pretty much on a daily basis, no apologies from me for doing that. The only person I've called a Nazi who does not, perhaps, self identify as a Nazi is Stephen Miller and I only do so because he's a Nazi.

Godwin himself said it is okay to call out people displaying Nazi behavior as Nazis, so while some people might use it cavalierly, I also think there are an alarming number of people who seem to be okay showing a lot of Nazi-esque behavior.

I know which group raises more concern from me in terms of incivility.

Just as a statement of fact then yes you can call someone a nazi if they own a nazi uniform.
But just calling someone a nazi just because you do not like what they said is then use useless.

You're welcome to disappear again.
