Is Brothers a movie or people looking for a final reason to eat a bullet?

Spoiler tags added in, just to see how well they work. -DrPizza (plus I think there are spoilers inside this thread, but I had never even heard of this movie til now.)

I saw an ad for this movie Brothers and everything I have seen since tells me it's exactly what I should go to some day when I'm looking for a reason to slash my wrists. A guy off to war dies, his wife starts banging his brother, he comes back (because he wasn't dead, and you find this out right away in the movie as it runs in parallel with his brother and wife getting cozy) and is batsh*t crazy insane. And they're poor and it just looks fvcking terrible. Natalie Portman, I'm sure, pulls off well the white trash sexy wife thing.

Anybody who's seen this movie does it have any kind of a happy ending or is it like requiem for a dream and at the end you wish instead you'd gone diving headfirst off your house?

Great ending.

The wife dies and the brothers sleep together.
lol, then that brother who was also in brokeback mountain gets some more man-time. In fact, that movie had a freaking depressing ending, too (yeah i saw it no idea why). That guys loves depressing movies.

That brokeback mountain guy is also in the Prince of Persia movie... which is bound to be depressing as it's a video game movie.

And Jarhead wasn't exactly a happy movie either.

Donnie Darko was rather odd, but very enjoyable.

I'm fairly confident I've seen every movie of his besides the one that also features Heath Ledger. ;)

He's a great actor. I'm actually really looking forward to Prince of Persia. I think it might be a video game based movie that has a chance of being a smash hit. Disney might do for it (albeit in quite a different fashion) what it did for what was simply a theme park attraction (Pirates of the Caribbean). IIRC, they've gone on to state that they are looking into making a trilogy for the series if the first one draws the crowd.
It's the right studio to finally tackle such a project. Hopefully this'll help coerce Stephen Spielberg into finally tackling one of the dramatic ones.

jake gyllenhaal is pretty good. and tobey maguire, who kind of annoyed me in spiderman, looks to be entertainingly disturbed in this flick.

but i still doubt i'd wanna sit through it.

and i didn't think jarhead was all that depressing. thought it was a great movie, though. but dude does pick some downer roles, jarhead has been his only real departure. it's emo, but in a tough guy way. or something.

So has anyone here seen this yet?

****MAJOR SPOILER ALERT****

I'm in the Marine Corps. The movie was a great representation of some of the things I have seen in the military.

The roll of Tobey Maguire (Capt Cahill) made me very angry. To think that he was able to beat a young Private to death to save his skin is reprehensible to me. An officer is someone that you are supposed to be able to count on for leadership, protection, and courage. When under the stresses that he was under, he should revert to his most natural expressions. These were obviously complete lack of control of himself and cowardliness.

That said, I don't blame the movie for creating a character that could do the same thing in real life.

Skoorb, as far as your comments about Natalie Portman, she never slept with Cahill's brother, she was NOT trashy, and she played the difficult role of a military wife with a husband who is suffering with extreme PTSD very delicately and thoughtfully.

That's my two sense.

Nothing is impossible when it comes to people. Even with training, things can snap, fall apart, etc... Not saying this movie is truthful or anything, but saying it could NEVER happen is incredibly short sighted

I didn't say that it could never happen. I said the exact opposite.

I think it's quite obvious that another beer is the last thing I need :D... I shall refrain from posting again until this situation is remedied (ie football game is over)

I saw portman tltties years ago when she had pics taken at the nude beach, so the only question remains, does this movie show a close up of her vag?

These are my thoughts exactly. I'm sure there will be some quality acting in this film from the cast, but really, is that enough to willing watch a movie that's going to most likely make me wanna off myself when it ends? Is it a "good" drama just because it makes you feel like shit? I don't know about this one.
