it doesnt help when your #4 hitter never gets anything but a walk...

i mean i understand its up to the rest of the team...i wonder if they have ever thought to put bonds as leadoff hitter, since he cant help drive in runs when they dont pitch to him

I don't see why people get so pissed that he gets walked all the time. Seems like the ultimate compliment to me. You people get so mad when runners are on base and he gets walked. You say, "Awww what the hell! He probably would've drove those runs in! But they just keep walking him!" That's EXACTLY why they walk him. Cause he probably WILL drive them in.

I see nothing wrong with it. It's a great tactic and has helped some teams to a win.

It's good for the opposing teams but it sucks for the fans as they don't get to see the best Baseball Player ever do his stuff. When Roger Maris had his 61 homer season he wasn't intnetionally walked once!

I see your point. Can't say I'd agree with him being the best baseball player ever, but I guess I kinda look at it from the opposing team's perspective. I might add that I don't like Bonds :).

That's pretty interesting. Maris wasn't even intentionally walked once and Bonds had 68 and 61 IBB in 2002 and 2003. He probably had more walks than whole other teams combined. That being said, it's probably an excellent strategy to do against the Giants. You need to have a good team, not just one great (top 3 of all time) player among a group of average to mediocre players.

Does not matter how good he is, when his attitude takes down the whole morale of the team. Like you know he has his own private room with a big screen TV that NOBODY is allowed to enter, ever. This is at the club house.

The Giants would have probable gone farther if NOT for bonds. He is a leach on any team he plays for. Yea he can put up some numbers, BUT one person does NOT make a team. I am gald they lost, juts to see him pout in his place. The only bad thing is, he took down other good players with him.

there's no I in team. if they walk Bonds - rest of the team's supposed to bring him home.

...apparently, there's no we in team either for the SF Giants.

Yeah. Bonds could use some better protection. (Oh the irony. I mean... with his armor)

Being in the 4th spot, yes it does hurt as the 4th spot is supposed to drive in runs, not produce them.

Leadoff - Fast, good on base percentage
2nd - 2nd best leadoff man, good bunter, singles hitter
3rd - Best hitter overall
4th - Cleanup, DRIVE IN the 1-3 guys
5th - Another powerful hitter, needs to be good enough so cleanup gets something to hit
6th -8th - misc, depending on who your team has

I think, logically, Bonds would be better in a different position. Leadoff? Maybe... he'd get on base a lot, but he'd never hit any 2-3 run homers (not that he did that a lot this year anyways). However, how can a manager put Bonds in a position other then 3rd or 4th? One of the greatest power hitters ever, batting leadoff? If it didn't work, the manager would be laughed out of baseball.
