Is big business holding 802.11g back?

I have been reading up on 802.11g and it seems they canceled their scheduled meeting to finalize the standard based on Intersil's specifications. However, it has been pushed back to November now so we won't see 802.11g products on the market till 2003.

Since many 802.11b products can be updated to support 802.11g, that means many 802.11b users will not have to purchase new hardware. I think big business doesn't like this.

In addition, only now are 802.11a products coming out so if they standardize 802.11g, then they are going to have a whole bunch of people waiting for 802.11b compatible one, and bypassing an entire line up of products.

Anyone have any opinions on all this?
