Is BF1942 retail better than the demo?

I have been playing the demo and quite frankly, even though the concept is good, and there are a lot of neat things about the game, I don't know if I will buy it. There are just too many issues. I realize it's a demo, that is why I am asking if the game is any better.

I have a lot of issues with the game play, but I won't go into that. I'll just be told what a crummy player I am. The thing that gets me is the demo disconnects or shuts down completely at random. Just now I was on a roll in an airplane when all of a sudden the game closed and I was back at my desktop.

The game lags a lot, too. I guess you have to have the latest and greatest hardware in order not to completely bog your system down. I have a 1 gHz Athlon w/256 MB and a GF 2. At 800x600 it lags all over the place with lots of disk writing.

Anyway, I really wish it wasn't so hard on my system and that it didn't crash a lot because it can be fun to play.

I played the single player demo, I liked it so much I bought it... I've yet to play multiplayer, I prefer bots on my team rather than stupid people.

Everything got resolved for me after I got the game errors wise, but I still have some slowdowns.

It lags with your system? I was running it on my old athlon 900 with 512 ram and a 32 meg Geforce card and it ran without a stutter. You must be having some memory problems or page file issues (aka swap file).

I just built a new system and it runs games at hyperspeed. :D The old system is pretty much a file server and paperweight.

I get all kinds of lag playing the demo, and I have a P4 2.2 gig processor with 512 MB DDR.

I much prefer RTCW.

I'm glad I am not the only one having probs with it. I have seen ppl while playing online bitch about it. The lags are murder when you are in a firefight with a tank or something like that. Today I was behind a tank with the bazooka. I hit that stupid thing (the online guide says tanks are most vulnerable from behind) in the rear three times but it never blew up, then I get a lag and disk writes. The next thing I know I'm dead. Totally pissed me off. And like I said earlier, I'm flying along today just fine then bam, I am at the desktop.

As for the single player. I tried that, too. On medium or 50% those bots are insane. They hit you before you can even see them. It was impossible to win.

It runs fine on my machine with a P4 2.0A and a Radeon 7500. I run it at 1024x765@32 with 8x AF and no FSAA. I just installed the Cat. 3.0a drivers and got a slight boost in performance. The game has pretty poor netcode, so it's not always your own hardware.

I have basically the same system as you, but w/ 512 megs of ram. There's occasional lags and the detail isn't too good, but I've learned to live with it. If the demo is the same (demo_wake), I'd suggest getting the retail for all the extra maps.

Yeah, I don't know what the deal with that is. You're supposed to aim for the little crate looking things mounted on the back of the tanks, but its still pretty much hit or miss with me. Sometimes one rocket takes it out, sometimes it takes 3. I guess YMMV. What's hot is if you manage to nail another person w/ the bazooka.
