Ok get this.. I contacted the 1-888-Best-Buy phone number about getting a rebate. I didn't have my receipt so they asked for my credit card number which I gave them to look it up. After looking up it up they told me "I'm sorry sir but the credit card number you gave us is NOT your credit card". I asked what exactly that meant and was told "According to our system, this credit card does not belong to you it belongs to someone else so I can not help you with this because this transaction does not belong to you!" I was shocked!! I was then told that if it was my credit card I would have to go by Best Buy and show them my credit card so they could identify that it was really mine.
So what is the deal?? Best Buy seems to be trying to match Credit Cards with customers and not doing a very good job. It also turns out that they have the ability to VIEW Credit Card numbers because when I had them call the credit card company they gave the credit card company my account number.
I guess this comes down to how much should WE trust Best Buy employees. They seem to be trying to do some interesting things with our information so what protections do they have?, And should we trust them to match our information with our credit card numbers, when they aren't doing a very good job!!
