Is BECK a genius?

I would not say I am a Beck fan, I have one of his albums and do like some of his songs.

I heard him described on a radio show as a musical genius.....and it got me thinking

I think genius is a pretty relative term. It depends who you talk to, and in what area.

I have heard a couple of interviews with Beck, and he sounds like a complete moron.

But then again, his music is very creative, and goes in its own direction, so who is to say whether he is an artistic genius?

I agree, I saw him being interviewed on TV a while back and he did not seem very intelligent at all....he looked and acted like he had just got out of bed.

But his music is very complex.....there is a lot going on in one of his songs

I can make a lot go on in a song too - but if it still sucks it sucks. I've heard about 4-5 good Beck songs and thats it.

In conclusion, not just based upon my own musical preferance, I have to disagree with any statements calling him a genius.

 

I don't understand any of his songs. Either he is a total genius whose mental capacity is far beyond my own, or he is an idiot just spurting out nonsense.

Yes BECK is a musical genius. He takes things that don't seem to go together and makes some amazing sound music. He is innovative. I guess it is relative though. I mean look at what we have going on today. BSB, N'Sync, etc, etc. Compared to those guys I am a musical genius because I am able to write my own songs.
