Is BDSM/kinky stuff invading mainstream media?

I've been pondering this for a while, having noticed little things before. For example, Greenday has numerous refferences to BDSM and kink in a few of their songs. (Blood, Sex and Booze and something off of Dookie, not to mention King for a Day) Cake seems to make a few refferences every now and then. (Hem is about as blatant as they seem to get as far as I remember) The guys at Penny Arcade flatly pointed out in a strip how it seems like in order to remake an old concept into something else new all you need to do is add semi-lesbian innuendo and some bondagey stuff and you have a hit. (They are currently being sued for the content of that strip, so it is down. Slashdot had an article about it. Google for "Strawberry Shortcake" and you may find a mirrored copy of it)

Anyway, I've just noticed it creeping into mainstream stuff more and more as less of a "weird" thing and more of a unique but accepted sort of thing, at a surprising rate. Anybody notice anything else like this?

I didn't notice this.
I mean, obviously, sex sells. So things are becoming more and more sexualized.
But I didn't think that bondage was becoming more mainstream.
Not that I'd complain if it did :D

Oh not again, another debate about morality in America. Times change, pal.

I wouldn't be surprised if BDSM, etc. is becoming more "mainstream". Sex sells, after all.

Same here. I'm just more surprised at how fast it seems to have happened. Mostly I'm just interested in where it's showing up, since I know I've missed some things.

You know, in the world of sexual fetishism, BDSM type stuff is considered normal and tame.

There are way more f-d up things that people are into.

I read that issue of Maxim too. :p I was surprised at how much I knew about actually. Pretty crazy stuff out there, and I'm saying that as a pretty crazy guy.

Europe has been much more lax with nudity and sexual references in mainstream media for many many years.

No debates, I find it normal that such things sell well. Alays cater the masses what they need and make a lot of money.

BDSM and other types of fetish sex seem pretty normal to me after seeing the sick ass movie "8 mm". Yikes.
