Is Battlefield BC:2 playable on our computers?

So I'm looking to buy Battlefield BC:2 very soon. Will it be playable on my system? My brother has another system and he might want to play this on his as well. We both game at 1680x1050.

My system in sig:
Q8200 @ 3ghz
4GB DDR2 800
Radeon 4830 512mb overclocked

My brothers computer (He told me these a bit ago):
Phenom X3 2.3ghz
4GB DDR2 800 (for sure, bough him this)
2x Radeon 3850 512mb in Crossfire (gave him one of these as well)

AA is not required, but wanted of course. High settings is preferable. Any thoughts?

(don't post minimum requirements or canyourunit.com crap, they mean nothing.)

more important is your internet speed, specifically your upload speeds.
but hardware wise it should be fine.

this first one looks fine but the second one you'll run into some problems(on medium settings).

Make sure to run both in DX9 not DX10. It'll help performance a lot. It defaults to the highest DirectX so you'll need to go in the ini settings and change that.

the first rig is similar to mine (phenom 2 x4 3.0ghz, 4gb ram, 4850 1gb) and it runs the game great.

Im not sure it makes that big of a difference on BC2 tbh. I played at home over the summer where I only had 1 Megabit internet and it ran perfectly fine

damn, apologies to the OP. i thought we were talking about black ops here. lol.

yeah internet speed isn't important in BC2 as it is in BO.

post your internet bandwidth

6mb/2mb. That's a weird thing to have is a high bandwidth requirement. Surely your computer has more to do with the gaming performance than internet speed since broadband is normal now. My brother's bandwidth is 12mb/3mb.

Edit: Nvm, we're good on this front.

Thanks. What kind of FPS did you have?

I'm thinking of getting BFBC2 as well and game with a E8400 dual core at 3.9Ghz with a single 4890. I hear BFBC2 loves quads, so what kind of performance can I expect at medium settings and resolution?

It really depends on your frame rate tolerances. For instance, the first rig would be fine for my preferences under tweaked medium settings (I'd edit the ini file and make certain things render at high and others at low or medium) and the DX9 path, the 4830 is the clear bottleneck for that rig.

But on the second rig the CPU and GPU(s) are both a bit dated. However if your brother does indeed have two 3850s in Crossfire, and they are 512MB versions (this is key, if they are 256MB versions they will absolutely tank in BC2), its possible they'll be a good deal faster than the 4830, making the X3 @ 2.3GHz the bottleneck.

You'll be fine @ 720p high settings lol.

E8400 is brimming with L2 cache and @ 3.9GHz can pack a punch, you should be fine. In fact the 4890 will easily be the bigger bottleneck of the two.

I was under the impression that our GPU setups were pretty much equal.

Welcome to the forums btw.

Provided the game scales well with crossfire, the 3850 xfire (if they're 512MB versions) should actually be tangibly faster than the 4830 for most games.

I'm not sure he realized there are two being considered, if it was just one 3850 then yes it would be a major bottleneck.

You should be good. I have the same CPU/GPU as you. Game runs great at medium settings, no problems or noticeable issues at 1920x1080.

Update: Thankfully steam has the sale on it for $6.79. I bought it for me and my brother both.

The game is very playable on my system. I run it on all high, 2xAA 8xAF 1680x1050. It ranged from 35-60fps (16 man server). Surprised it runs so well at lower fps. The game looks amazing in single player too. This game seems like it should run great with any quad and an 8800gt to a GTS 250 at my resolution.

I will be updating this post to update his performance. I'm very interested in how well a Phenom x3 handles the game, as well as crossfired 3850s. His specs are actually an x3 at 2.4ghz, and the 3850s are 512mb a piece.

Edit: Wow. This game runs 60fps on a combo of low/med/high for me now during multiplayer. This is game is amazing.

Agreed about the graphics and performance. I have only an E4500 and 9800GT and this game runs fine at medium to high at 1440x900 and looks quite good.
It is vastly superior grahically to Black Ops which on the same system looked like crap and ran with serious stuttering issues no matter what the settings.
The only bad thing is that I got it on sale for 20.00 only a few weeks ago and now it is on sale on Steam super cheap.

FWIW, I run 1680x1050 on high with stock clocked i5 750 / Vapor-X 4890. I've dropped below 20fps once, below 30fps a couple times, but the vast majority of the time I'm nice and fluid (40-60? don't pay attention when it's smooth).

You will be fine. Check my sig. Before my 6870, I was using an 8800 GTS (g92 version) and it ran well. The only issue I had was an occasional stutter from what I assumed was texture swapping due to my limited 512 MB of video RAM.

E8400 stock speed and 4870-512, 4GB ram, I ran it on high @ 1920x1080 and it is very smooth, though I've never actually measured fps. BC2 is not a very demanding game.
