Is battlefield 1942 based on the quake 3 engine?

No, it's the Refractor2 engine ... but I don't know who created ... maybe it was DICE.

No way...jsut playing the game, you can tell that it isn't the q3 engine. I am pretty sure it is a home brewed engine.

no part of the Q3 engine powers BF1942..

MOHAA does use the Q3 engine though..

I can completely understand wanting a second (or third or fourth) opinion, so I don't blame you for starting this thread, but I did answer this question back in this thread, which you also started.

RTCW = Quake 3
MoHAA = Quake 3
BF1942 = Its own engine

No way they are nearly the same engine, Quake 3 runs much smoother. The "feel" on both games are completely different. The animation is much smoother on Q3 as well.

great now i read this thread and i have to go play it again

this is like back in freshman year with cs. i stayed up till 7 am yesterday playing bf1942!!!!
