Is Bank of America the Devil?

I have checking accounts at both US Bank and Bank of America.

US Bank account is generally left idle, with low balances, no direct deposit, no activity. Bank of America account got used for everything, including Direct Deposit.

I turned 18 on the 12th, and US Bank gave me a $1000 credit limit, Bank of America will offer me nothing.

Is Bank of America a bunch of hardasses when it comes to loans?

I think I'm going to just close the Bank of America accounts, they're obviously not willing to compete whatsoever for my business.

Anyone else have experiences with them denying credit for no good reason?

US Bank gave $1000 limit on a credit card.

I assume If I needed an installment loan of some sort they'd give me one of those too.

So did you try to apply/get preapproval on a credit card from BoA, or assume they will offer you nothing because they haven't already?

I went into the branch, told the guy the other bank gave me a card, and that I was going to switch all my business to them if Bank of America couldn't offer what they were. He input the credit card application, got auto denial, I told him to see if a real person could look at it, he left me a message a few hours later that they couldn't do anything.

It's almost as if Bank of America doesn't want my business at all.

I went into the US Bank branch with 8 months of credit history as a registered user of a maxxed out secured card, having turned 18 just 2 days prior, and they had NO problem approving me.

Bank of America obviously does not care about individual accounts since they're soooo huge. US Bank isn't exactly a small bank though.

Oh well. I guess it's time to switch Direct Deposit.

Did you ever think that's how they got so huge was by not giving people with limited credit history credit?

It's not that they don't want it, its just that they're following procedures. I applied for a car loan with Community Credit Union - got denied flat out. Got approved through Capital One Auto Finance and Bank of America easily. Each one has different standards and procedure methods they must follow for financial issues. In the grand scheme of things, all financial institutions could care less about your money if you have less than a certain amount in your account.

Prvteye, US Bank is the 8th largest bank in the country, I'd hardly call them a subprime lender.

If Bank of America is following standards, I don't care. I'm sure US Bank has a standard that would probably exclude me too. Still, if a loan officer can't override some stupid computer and provide a shred of personal service, well, that sucks, and that bank is going to lose business.

Do you honestly think US Bank did you a personal favor or gave you personal service? You're kidding yourself if you think so.

Whether they did or not, is it unreasonable to expect Bank of America to counter offer what US Bank gave me?

Banks should be forced to compete a bit, right?

Yes, if it's a significant amount of money or business. From the sound of it, you would qualify for either a Student Visa Gold or a Secured Visa with BoA. Secured Visa dependent on the size of your savings account, (like a check card almost) Student Visa did not have credit limits listed.

Bank of America is the sucks! I'm switching my entire life saving to Wells Fargo. The service I'm getting from these morons at the local branch is just pathetic.

No, they're just entirely portfolio.

Congrats on the credit card. But my condolences to learn what an arrogant prick you obviously are.

loaning money out for rebuilding.
