We can site statistics all day:

Cities with comparable (or worse) chlamydia infection rates to Baltimore (483.0 in 100,000):
Austin, TX (511.7)
Chicago, IL (486.0)
Dallas, TX (430.8)
Denver, CO (470.9)
New York, NY (441.4)
Philadelphia, PA (521.5)
San Diego, CA (472.1)
link

all of them unredeemable shitholes, obviously.

some people understand the realities of cities and enjoy the advantages that cities offer, and some people don't so they demonize and generalize.

and most of the people who demonize and generalize have never been to said cities.

It could be argued that idiots are what makes a city a "dump". High STD rates are proof of that idiocy.

it could be, but you'd have to be an idiot make that argument. many cities have higher chlamydia rates than the US population as a whole. a bunch of those cities have higher rates than Baltimore. for example - New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, etc. you don't understand the data that you posted. Baltimore's infection rate is only 18% greater than the national average.

It blows my mind that some people have unprotected sex with people they just met even when stats like this are known.

Ladies, birth control pills do not protect you from The AIDS :colbert:

Yeah you couldn't pay me $100 to dig out a girl, even using protection, that lives in b-more. My Valtrex bill would be more...

And you fail at statistics. Baltimore metro region doesn't mean Baltimore city which is at a rate of 1221.3, straight from MD DHMH.

Let's see if you can read this graph.
http://ideha.dhmh.maryland.gov/cstip/pdf/CT-Rates-Graph-2000-2009.pdf

Yes, Baltimore city is a cesspool regarding STD's like CLAP.

http://ideha.dhmh.maryland.gov/cstip/pdf/GC-Rates-Graph-2000-2009.pdf
Gonorrhea, which is dropping but still way higher than the state and US.

http://ideha.dhmh.maryland.gov/cstip/pdf/Syp_Rates_Grap-2000-2009.pdf
Syphilis, while much rarer, still way higher as well.

my whole point in this thread is that people sh*tting on baltimore have no frame of reference, especially you. i posted a link of apples-to-apples stats on the country's largest 50 *metro regions* to show how baltimore compares to other *metro regions*. looking at baltimore city stats in isolation tells us nothing that we didn't know before. yes, bmore has worse infection rates than the surrounding counties - because poor people cluster in cities rather than suburbs.

Inner Harbor is great, I love that place. The rest of the city, not so much. I'm a Detroit native though, so it's probably worse than what I see. Lived in Ellicott City for a couple years then made the mistake of buying a place just inside the beltway.

Yeah don't do that.

Not even.

Its more like
1. St Louis
2. Detroit
3. Compton

Compton has some really bad areas, I mean REALLY bad. But it has a lot of nice areas, Dominguez Hills (Compton) has some big houses and is on par with a nice upper middle class area. I wouldn't even put Compton on top 5 worst areas in So Cal.

Since I've been living in the Baltimore area for the last couple weeks (and will be for the rest of the summer) I have noticed a couple things. For starters I am not nearly as scared going around this city as I am going around Detroit, and I lived in a Detroit suburb my whole life. Also, to whoever thinks this place is good for a recent grad is fooling themselves. Baltimore, and Maryland in general have, by far, the lowest concentration of attractive women of anywhere I have ever lived. Every woman here is either fat, ugly, black, or a combination of factors that makes them completely unattractive.

I was down in Detroit (Springwells near I75) the other day, and I all I could think is that there is a lot good looking poor women walking around.

I am talking about the entire metropolitan area, not just the ghetto.

Baltimore is a great place to live. Like all cities, it has good parts and bad parts. It has a relatively high crime rate, but it is going down and it almost all happens in neighborhoods you would never be in.

Great museums, sports, bars, restaurants, music scenes(of all kinds, metal, rave, jam, folk, blues), good LBGT scene... any place that has a good gay scene is a super fun place... great touristy shit, forts, history, unique galleries and museums. Neighborhood festivals all summer long.

Affordable housing with prices actually rising for the last year or so... awesome job market(compared to the rest of the country)

tons of parks and trees inside the city and huge beautiful parks minutes outside of the city.

some of the best seafood in the country.

one of the best ballparks in the country.

superbowl champs.

Really close to DC, which is another city suffering from bad image. DC is one of the funnest cities in the country and has some of the best culture to enjoy in the world... but unlike DC, you can actually afford to buy a house in Baltimore.

The only people I know that don't like Baltimore that have spent any time here just plain don't like black people... because let's face it... there are a lot of black people here.
