Often yes. Some people, frustrated with their lives and the lack of power within then, enjoy taking it out on others. Anandtech is an easy forum to express one's life-frustrations, and so you see a lot of it here.

We're only mean toward idiots.

Yea, that pretty much sums it up. I think everyone really has cooled down. When I first joined things were a lot different here, but it was rather fun. 😀

I'll say it again: ATOT is better than it was 2 years ago . . . now almost three years, I guess. I say that primarily because the favouritism that was so prevalent before is not as obvious. There's also less personalisation amongst the different echelons. However, currently ATOT is worse than it was last year. Last year was decent.

This year, it's close to 2 years ago, except at least you had intelligent and helpful subjects and posts two years ago. You could find discussions of religion, history, philosophy and mathematics and gain insights, whilst competing with the many neffing threads. Now, it seems people are in despair of having not much to discuss. Hence, you are more likely to find hostile individuals due to idleness.
I think it has consistently gotten worse with the exception of a few things. You're right about the favoritism, which has gone to a great extent. Still, there are little "cliques" that exist, but that's likely to happen when people interact with the same person or persons over time. The reason it's diminished is because there are now so many users, so it's harder to identify. There are only a few people in my mind now who are bad apples on ATOT consistenly and who would serve us all well to buggar off.

In terms of quality of threads, well that's gone pretty well to sh*t. We don't have religion threads because we know they'll fall apart (but maybe that's us learning, since it was always that way), and about the most serious thread you'll see here is a frank and honest discussion of cars finances.

Luvly, the .999... = 1 thread is still going 🙂 Then again, the only insight anyone gains from that is that the mathematically adept persons aren't adept at convincing the mathematically challenged.

A lot of posters are disconnected from real family (college students, single guys/girls) and being away from family leads to sad/unsure/bitter/confused times, and might be reflected in their posts.
That's the first heartfelt thing I've ever heard here... thanks :brokenheart:

I just wish everyone realized that each of these names has a person behind them... words only hurt the people who would never use them like that...

See.... another one hurt in the melee....

All I know is that I saw a thread that was so funny this afternoon that it had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes @ work. It was deleted.

Yep, the threads can get a little mean, but so can the real world if one dares to venture out from Sesame Street.
