IBM Thinkpad R32

Looking at this laptop here...it's got an ATi Radeon Mobility 16MB.

I'm not a huge gamer, but this R32 will be my only computer. I like to play Counterstrike, Warcraft3, Diablo2, Starcraft alot...none of those are very intensive, so I'm sure the Radeon Mobility 16MB will be okay for those yeah?

I occasionally play a little Unreal Tournament or Quake3 as well. How do you think a P4M1600 and that Video would hold up in those?

It comes stock with 256MB of RAM...I might up that to 512...so I wouldn't worry too much about RAM amount...though speed might be an issue. I'm also going to get a CDRW drive for it. But other than those two minor mods, it'll be as seen there. Will it be okay for the games I mentioned do you think?

(For display I'm keeping my flatscreen CRT to hook up to the external VGA when it's on my desk. When I'm on the road I won't worry too much about the gaming part)

Ouch ya, that's really expensive for what you're getting. You might want to take a look at the Compaq Presario 2800. That might fit your budget a bit better.

16 MB seems a little low, benches I've seen show a definite performance hit compared to the 32 MB models. For that price you might look at a Dell 8200 with at least 32 MB Radeon or gf4mx or the Compaq with Radeon 9000.

you should go with the t30 or the a31.

those have radeon 7500s so you could actually play those games, the mobility in the r32 is a radeon mobiliy m6 probably , and not even with the full 32mb ram it can have .

its a cut down radeon ve for notebook market. DO NOT BUY IT.

It is a decent card for a laptop. Perhaps in your price range you can get something nicer.

I have one in my Dell inspiron 4100 (but then I only paid $1000 for it new). I use the 1024x768 XGA 14" TFT and the 2D is excellent.

It is based on the original Radeon core but is only 16MB DDR. I have no trouble playing Max Payne, Serious Sam SE, Star Trek Elite Forces (QIII engine), Unreal, and NOLF. However for MP and SS, SE I drop the resolution to 800x600 with details high (or default resolution with details lower).

It was my only gaming machine for my three months in Hawaii this Winter. No problems although I missed my 19" CRT.
