Anyhoo, yeah the 8500 is pretty equivalent to a Ti 4200. Just be sure to get the 128 MB LE version.
It is a 128MB version. Has all kinds of input/outputs and even came with a remote control.
No, not Jmaximus. I play online when I can find the time and I'm okay, not great at it, but it is great fun. I can't even tell you what my online name is. Some variation on Jules or something I'm sure.
The 8500 is MORE than adequate for the kind of gaming you are talking about doing.
I still have an 8500 in my main rig (3200+ barton) and it runs everything great.
I can't have ALL the eye candy on, but most of it at 1024 x 768 in UT 2K3
I'm thinking of upgrading it soon, but only because I want to put it in my wifes machine (She loves UT2K3)
Anyway. it will do you just fine for some time to come.
I agree with this statement, I use a 8500 64mb DDR (original version) with my 1800+ and I love it. I can still play all the latest games at 1024x768 with most or all details turned to highest (but no AA or Ansio enabled) Just a list of the games that run fine on my slower than normal system
Homeworld 2 (smooth)
Jedi Academy (smooth except when these cloaking dudes appear, then I get momentary jumpy)
UT 2003 (smooth)
BF 1942 (smooth)
Americas Army (smooth)
RTCW, C&C Generals, Unreal 2, etc... all smooth
As you can see, most new games will work fine. All these were running at 1024x768 with all detals set at least to high if not highest. This card will NOT be adequate for Half-Life 2 if you want any of the nice effects enabled, but for now it works fine. I am keeping this baby till Christmas when I will look at the 9600 pro or one of the newer cards availble (I am hopeing new releases of cards will drive the 9700 pro or 9800 pro prices down, but that is a long shot)
