Is ATA100 backward compatible with ATA66?

I'm thinking about buying an ATA100 drive for my computer. The bus only supports ATA66, will the ATA100 dirve work on the ATA66 connection? The only reason I ask is that I will probably hold off on buying the controller card for a while if I can, damn college takes all my money, hehe.

Yes a ATA100 drive will work on a ATA66 bus.

The best drive on the market (according to popular opinion and storagereview) is the IBM Deskstar series. It only pushes 37.5MB/sec sustained, which barely justifies the upgrade to an ATA66 bus let alone an ATA100 bus. Don't bother shelling out for a ATA100 card save your money and get a SerialATA card when they come out then you'll see some improvements.
