Is ATA 100 worth it?

I'm currently running a Abit BX6 Rev. 2 and everything in it is current maxed out to the board spec (700Mhx P3, 300+mb ram, Geforce 2 (but at 2x... oh well), EXCEPT the hard drive. I need to get a new one. The on board IDE controller is a 33. Is it worth getting a ATA 66 or 100 controller card and putting in a 66 or 100 hard drive? What kind of performance increase would I see between a 33, 66 and 100?

Anybody know?

You get some but not much, just get the drive, it's backward compatible and soon you'll be getting a mobo with ata/100 so don't bother wasting money

I just upgrade the wife's bx6 last night.. had a spare raid card, did a mirror...

From a jump to 33 to 66/100, yeah, I think you'd notice it. Between 66 and 100 themselves, not really. Up to you what ya wanna upgrade. If you're planning on keeping that board for a long time, get the controller card. Otherwise just get the drive like forcesho mentioned.

This difference in cost for a non ATA/100 drive is minimal , so even if you can't use the ATA/100 , you have it for the future. If you can , get a drive with a larger cache. Just having more disk drives should speed up your system because using more drives reduces the necessity for head seek movement.
