Hello everyone,

First of all sorry for my bad English :(

I have an ASUS TS700-E4/RX Server with this spec.:

Motherboard : DSBF-D12/SAS
CPU : 2 * Intel XEON 5420 @ 2.50 GHz
RAM : 4 * Kingstone 2GB ECC Reg. DDR2 533
HDD : 8 * Seagate 1TB 32MBbuffer
Power : 2 * 730W

I want to use this server as a gaming PC! Is it possible add ATI HD7970-DC2-3GD5 graphic card to this server? and will PC work good for this matter? any suggestions? please guide me.

Thanks.

The motherboard has a PCIe x16 slot so yeah you can install a graphics card and use it for gaming.

7970 would be bottlenecked by a 2.5GHz Core 2 Quad equivalent. I'd recommend max. 7850 2GB for that CPU. What's your monitor resolution?

Thank you for reply.

Do you recommend i sell it and buy new PC for gaming or is it just OK?

I have a Samsung 2770H monitor with 1920 x 1080 Display Resolution.

Before buying the GPU, you need to pop it open and see what sorts of free power cables their are coming off the PSU. Most servers are highly integrated and may not have any standard power connectors that you can use, even though the PSUs are more than powerful enough.

It probably has free molex connectors you can use adapters off of even if it lacked PCIe connectors

@ OP

As long as you have free molex or PCIe connectors, I think using the server for gaming is a good idea cost wise as long as you're fine with being limited by the CPU. You won't be playing new demanding games at high/ultra with it.
