:shocked: hey i just want to know which motherboard is good to have, i have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe and i am very happy with it, (check my other thread to see the rest of my specs) but i am planning to get the AMD 64 FX-(newest version goes here lol) and i think i am going to need a new motherboard as that processor is a 939 socket?im fairly new to computer building with my current rig being the only pc i've built under my belt so i wanna see which mobo i should get and from what company, ive been seen foxconn out there lately.
 
why what happend to asus??are they getting beat??of those companies which one would go with 100% of the time?
 
which mobo would you say would be the best from these companies:
gigabyte foxconn msi and dfi??also i want agp slot and athlon fx chips so theyd have to be socket 939
 
Life would be easy if you could split Mobo companies in categories Great-Ordinary-Stay away. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Most makers have different type of boards catering to different market segments. Some concentrate on specific niches like ECS=value market.

Bottom line, it all depends on your needs and a particular model - not so much a company thing. True some boards seem to be having more problems when you consult forums. But the more popular the board, the more likely they will be discussed in forums (most often concerning problems).
 
My first custom built machine back in 2000 (what ........................ I started late) was with an Abit board.

My brother has it now and it never had a problem, geez I hope this dosen't jinx it............lol.

DFI is a great company. If Abit ever comes out with a good NF4 mobo I would probably get that though.

LOL, Abit almost went belly up,

after lying about their financial records,

and using low quality capacitors on their mobos,

on top of using suspect clock generators that

make users believe that their CPU OCd very well

on ABIT mobo, eventhough the benchmarks didn't

reflect the supposed high Frequency reached by

the OCd CPU on these ABIT mobos... then their

top mobo designer, the very same person who

designed these mobos bailed to DFI :laugh:
 
Meh, I never really liked Epox boards, since they're rare up here. MSI, DFI, Asus and Intel ones are the most common.
I find them in this order:

DFI - MSI - Intel - Asus - Others.

I love gigabyte, and have always used their boards in my personal computers. I have built high end systems with DFI and Asus boards though and they are all great. What it comes down to, as long as you pick from a solid company, asus dfi, msi, gigabyte, epox,(in no particular order) it will be fine. I dont think your gonna be OC'ing so go with a nice NForce 3 board that has the most bang for your buck with the features you want. IMO gigabyte has a solid 80$ board that has everything you could probably want, and its very reliable.
 
I used to use Abit years ago, but I had nothing but trouble with them afterwards, so I switched to Asus, mainly due the many features on offer.

I chose the A8N-SLi Deluxe for my setup, due to the 8 SATA slots, and for me, the best mix of PCi, PCi-E etc slots.
 
😀 ok bottom line what board would would be each company's top board. Remember i want a 939 for the AMD 64 FX series board using the better of chipset of the 2(VIA K8 or nforce) and i'd like the board to an AGP slot(no pci flames please) its a gaming board i want but i do want the agp slot as i want the ATI X850XTPE (agp)

Based on my experience, I like Abit the best. I have IC7-G and it is stable, OC friendly and no bios upgrade issues.

I experience with Asus is lousy firmware on the last version of the old P2B where disabling the bios update will cause the system not to initialize.

Intel, managed a few servers on a production environment with Intel motherboard and almost always have problem with their built-in board (sound, NIC, video) and they are not overclockable.

MSI, I also managed some development desktops before with MSI motherboard and the last time we did a bios upgrade (with the correct model of course) the system never boot up so I'm staying away from all this motherboard now.

Summary are my experience with the motherboards:
Abit - The best so far.
Asus - ok, but will not buy it again.
Intel - Will not touch this junk.
Gigabyte - my buddy is happy and I will probably get it as well.
FIC - the worst junk
MSI - ok, but will not buy it again

I have used Asus mobos for almost all of my builds.

Its tuff to say which motherboard manufacture is the best.

It think that it depends on what "series" of mobos your looking at. Like when the s939 came out the PRE Asus A8V v2.0 didnt have PCI locks, and it might be a better bet go with MSI or something.

I still think that Any of the major mobo manufactures can release a quicky ass mobo.

It is needed to search the forums and find out peoples personal expreinces are with whatever type of mobo chipset/socket before buying.

I personally would stick with Asus, Epox, DFI, Abit, MSI.
