Is asexuality a medical condition?

People who claim to be asexual say that they never have any sexual desires or feelings. But why don't they? Is it a hormonal issue? I don't get it.

Perusing the forums at asexuality.org has just compounded my confusion.

Asexual literally means not sexual. The scientific connotation is as "an alternative reproduction method".

One can't help but think it's psychological. Of course that's what we said about homosexuality now isn't it...
