And then you try and connect the state of Californias government debt to them buying macbooks? Your reasoning is seriously messed up and borderline retarded.
You see no correlation at all between people who buy things without looking at the price tag and how having a state full of people like that causes uncontrolled spending sprees?

For all the "work" that went into 10 over the years, all they have truly accomplished was making it look better. Sure they've added tons of 'features' that helped Mac OS from sliding into obscurity, but it is still inferior to other OSs.
Everything under the hood is good, but the GUI is totally fucked just for the sake of being different. Windows and various Linux desktops all have buttons that make a window full screen; this is the standard because it's useful and everyone likes it. Jobs is big on being a unique little snowflake, so his operating system can't do this. If you want the window full screen, go kill yourself. This is Mac OS, and we don't do full screen around here.

I think it might actually help Apple when Steve leaves the company. Being super super rich, he's totally disconnected from reality and he doesn't understand what people want. Why do his desktop computers all use laptop parts which cost twice as much and are slower? Why do they force you to buy a monitor with it? If I wanted something with laptop parts and a built in monitor, I would just buy a laptop. It makes no sense at all. His design choices are entirely based on style. Jobs is the kind of guy who thinks Chrysler just needs to make vehicles cuter without fixing any of the quality issues.

Well if he did any thinking he might have noticed his comment about my post was incorrect.

But hey, it sure does look better.

Um....

All OS X is, is a GUI (Finder) for a branch of FreeBSD and is UNIX certified.

So what other OSs are you referring to, Windows? LOL

No, I'm quite sure that Darth Steve has a hundred or so clones growing up right now, in a top secret experiment. Whichever one of the little mini me's ends up becoming the most arrogant little prick will be given the mock turtleneck of power, and will step into daddy's shoes. It's sort of like the "Boys from Brazil", only there's no Nazis.......oh wait, maybe there is!

Either that, or he has figured out how to transfer his essence into another body, and is just waiting for his clone to grow up, so he can steal the body. Can you imagine? Virtually endless life, virtually endless arrogance!! D:

That is what is so laughable.

All of the "geeks" here who love to tout Linux also love to slam OS X.

Its quite hilarious.

Well maybe they don't like Apple in general or the way some of their software works?

Anywho, once Jobs goes, Apple stock will take a HUGE dive.

Your argument is as follows:
People buy expensive shit (Aka Apple products) = why the govt of California is in major debt

see absolutely no correlation between these two things. There is no way you could ever make a correlation between these two things. Its a huge, no wait, GIGANTIC leap in logic you are making there.

Let's see other leaps of faith made by my logic. USA is filled with a large number of religious crazy people, so my logic would state that USA has a lot of fucked up religious government policies..... such as abstinence-only education and a federal ban on funding stem cell research as well as attempting to pass a constitution amendment to ban gay marriage. Oh look at that, Shawn is right again. People behave in government exactly the same way they behave outside of government?? No shit. I didn't think I would actually need to explain this to anyone.

"If" Jobs dies? Dear God, do I have to fear mecha-Jobs in the future?

The ironic thing is that government derives that authority from godless "progressive" policies.

Maybe we can merge the two failed ideas together. Fill the school with $3000 Apple computers then use those computers to teach creationism intelligent design.

Again, you're trying to put words in my mouth and argue a point I never stated. I never said there wasn't a huge improvement from 9 to 10. The point you're missing is that even with all those improvements, it's still garbage. They can improve it to the best of their ability and make it the best Mac OS ever, but that doesn't mean it is a good OS.
Making huge improvements to a terrible product doesn't make it a good one.

Translation: I can't play games very well on a mac therefore it sucks.

Care to enlighten us on why MacOSX is so terrible, noob?

Let's see here..Yep I said Apple products are overpriced and that Apple and Google will do just fine. If that's your idea of a zealot then ok... whatever.

Apple won't go anywhere so long as people are willing to pay 2x for last generation hardware in a shiny skin. Their stock will take a beating when Jobs goes, but it'll level off and likely grow again.

he's saying that such people are idiots with money. Hence, disaster.

His logic is sound.

But if it makes you feel any better, I think both of you are acting like idiots in this thread.

Look at the new 11.6" Macbook Air. It has extremely old specs for a $1k machine.
Gotta give credit to Steve. He knows how to sell things to idiots.

People who want a small and cheap computer will buy a netbook. People who want performance will buy something bigger like a Macbook or a Macbook Pro. The Macbook Air has absolutely no practical appeal. It's all about style, and people buy them for decoration. Because of this, Apple can get away with building a remarkably slow computer and selling it for 3x what it's worth.

Show me a comparable machine that is under 2.3lbs, .1" to .6" thick, and has a battery life of 5 hours.

The fact of the matter is people think this machines is targeted at a segment of the population that needs a lot of battery and portability but not a lot of horsepower.

The average letters and arts student needs what, Word, email and the internet?
This laptop is perfect.

The average person in business needs what, Word, email, web apps, excel, and the internet?
This laptop is perfect.

The average user in both segments need battery and portability, not the means to play high end games on the road.

what about this?
http://campuslife.asus.com/product/detail/21

for half the price you'll have nearly the same experience on all the things listed. Yes, it isn't as light or stylish as the mac air, but it can do all the things you just listed at a lower price.

Heck even this one
http://campuslife.asus.com/product/detail/17

Would have about the same experience for the stuff you listed while having a much longer battery life and at about 1/3 the price. The macbook air isn't perfect for any of those situations you listed above because, honestly, for every one of them a cheaper netbook will work just as well.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure there is probably a group of people (besides mac enthusiasts) that this exact mix of components makes a lot of sense. I just don't agree that it is the segment you pointed out. This thing is too fast and expensive to really qualify as a netbook, and too slow to qualify as a laptop. It is almost like they were targeting the market right between netbook and notebook. Something that was fastish and small.

Sweet! An Intel Atom processor. And people are claiming that the MBA is underpowered.
(And it is 1lb more in weight )
