Is AOL's 299pcdeal.com a decent deal for a novice PC user?

Should I recommend AOL's newest bargin, 299pcdeal.com, to people who don't know much about computers or the internet? I know AOL isn't the greatest, but for people who won't use it a ton or play games, this might be a decent deal.

Thoughts?

If they don't mind using OpenOffice and paying for AOL for a year.

Technically it is worth the price but I am not sure I would because they want a 1 year commitment at $24 a month. Thats almost broadband price. I would build something cheap for $350ish instead. But if this person wants aol then the specs are worth the price.

Specifications:

* Intel® Celeron® Processor 1.7GHz
* Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
* 256MB DDR RAM
* 40GB 5400RPM ATA100 Hard Drive
* 52x CD-ROM Drive
* 56K v90 Modem
* S3 Pro Savage Video 32MB (factory set)
* AC97 Sound
* Black 2-Piece Stereo Speakers
* Black Keyboard & Mouse
* Black 17" CRT Monitor
* Plus a Lexmark® Z605 Color Jetprinter!
* Print up to 14 black pages per minute
* Print up to 8 color pages per minute
* Up to 4800 x 1200dpi color resolution
* Up to 2400 x 1200dpi black resolution
* USB cable connectivity

Seems fine except that I dont like the 5400rpm drive or the celeron

Here's the Hot Deals thread.

I think the Dell Dimension 2400 is a better computer overall if you can afford it upfront (rather than paying AOL $23.90 per month).

There is a 15% off $799 or more coupon available which expires 12/5.

One of my friends ordered a Dell 2400 tonight with 17" Trinitron flat CRT, Dell printer, P4 2.53 GHz, 256MB DDR RAM, 40GB, CD-RW, Floppy, Windows XP Home, Floppy, Speakers, NIC, modem all for $498 after $200 MIR and 15% off coupon.
