Is AOL / AIM promoting spyware???

The other night i accidently hit the 'expressions' button on the AIM window, and next thing i know my machine got infected with spyware crap. AVG caught it as a virus and removed it, and i thoght it was gone and now its back again. So i guess time for a reinstall.

This is a fresh install to begin with, and its patched with all MS patches.. the virus came in thru IE, when i clicked the expressions icon in the IM window.

Why is AOL/AIM doing this? I sent them a flaming turd the other night. The thing is my machine is pretty secure, the XP firewall is on, and XP is updated all the way thru, i have the hosts file with a billion blocked addresses for ad companies and yet one went right thru it. I am not sure what to do other than back up and reinstall again.

what can we do.. and the worst part is some of the new programs arent seen by anything on google. One was called iohfax.exe and eq<xxxxx>.exe and google has NO info on it.

I use firefox for browsing and I still dont know how this thing got in. I had my IE settings as HIGH and it still manages to get in, I think AIM is the culprit.. should we all send them a flaming turd.

If someone has amachine that needs reinstall, hit the damn expressions button in aim and watch the spyware and viruses load.. we need more proof than just me to get their attention that we mean business.

Simple. Don't use the newest version. I've been using the last release of 5.5 with no problems.

I am on the older version.. that's what the problem is. i got it before the new version came out.

I think while the idea of having expressions is good, they shoudl not be putting fscking spyware on top.. it totally screws up a system.
