Is anything more annoying than 'know what I'm saying'?

I'll turn 43 this year, but my friends range from 20 something to about 65. The thing is, I want to literally beat the shit out of some of them, when they cliche'ingly (trademark on this word) spout 'know what I'm saying?'.

Am I just being an old fart, or do I have justification in rebelling against their inchoate thoughts?

'Know what I'm saying' could be place them from child molesters to Einstein. Maybe there is a profound reason for their speech, but I doubt it. I'd never say this to their faces; just wondering if I'm sort of Nazi grammar police and making too much of this...

Are you cognizant of the meaning of the sounds issuing from my mouth?

Am I cognizant of the perceived meaning of your words?

I am not; because my perception of your words rests solely in my interpretation of your words. Good enough?

I perceive that your perception is lacking. Unless my perception of your perceived interpretation is faulty, mutual cognizance of monosyllabic and polysyllabic locution may be impossible between us.

it sounds to me like this is a symptom of a greater problem you have with them, and not the problem itself.

"Could care less"
This one always drives me nuts, because the saying is "I couldn't care less", to make the point that you really truly do not care and could not care any less.

Saying you can care less doesn't really make a point at all.
Since if you actually do care, then guess what?...You "could" care less.

Worse than any mentioned above is "It was everything/anything but X", used as if it means "It was everything/anything, but it was also X".

Yes, these two phrases:

Like

Ya know

P.S. I agree with the OP

Oh so you literally want to physically assault people because of they way they speak. How....deplorable of you.

You are an old fart. Not something thing to get that angry about. Know what I'm sayin?

For reference I will also be 43 this year. And I've come to learn to pick my battles about the things in life I let stress me out to that degree.

"Right" or "I know, right" has been ran into the ground and calls for a good cock-punching.

I only have one friend who says that but it's the frequency that kills me. Every third or fourth sentence, like a drumbeat.

I find 'like' and the inability to speak in complete sentences much more annoying.

Meh, I spare the outrage over issues like these. Perhaps because I hear very poor speech daily?
