I have one of these, VANTEC AeroFlow VA4-C7040, and it is a beautiful unit:

But, I think it could be just a bit quieter.
Is anyone undervolting their CPU fan and still having it cool enough?
This is on an AMD Barton chip.
Next step is to replace the PSU fan, then i think it will be queit enough.

I'm a quiet freak too. If you have good case cooling you could probably turn down the fan. I use a panaflo L1A (21dB) on my slk-800. I also switched my PSU fan. There's pics of what I did in my sig.

What are your current CPU temps? They will decide whether you can undervoly your CPU fan. I am running a 39CFM fan at 5V on my HS. I cant hear it from more than 6".

My P4 2.66 @ 3.00Ghz rig is running an Alpha 8942 with a 7V Panaflo M1A on it. Idel temp runs 33°C, Prime95 load temp runs 45°C.

My PIII-S 1.4Ghz rig is running a Thermalright SLK-800 with a 7V Panaflo M1A on it. Idles around 35°C, Prime95 load temp is 39°C.

Uh...why not shell out the whopping $8 and get a YS tech adjustable? They are nice, and it saves you the trouble of buying 3/4/5 different fans before you find the one that "sounds" right :D

That said, my XP2400@2.1ghz does 35-40* with a 18cfm NMB and 40-45* with a 30cfm SVC brand, using a TRight AX7. The NMB is sooooo quiet. But I put a YS Tech adjustable on my bro's XP2500, and its the only way to go...goes from 10cfm to 40 I believe. I don't have it hooked up to monitor RPMs, but using a SLK800u, cranking it down to near silence still keeps his CPU at 40-45*.

I like using the Zalman resistor that comes with their flower heatsinks.
Am using it on a PAL 6035 to cool a XP1700+, have used them on everything from a GC68
to the stock AMD heatsink .
They do a nice job of quieting things down.

my 2000+ palomino somehow survives with a hcc-002 coolermaster heatsink and a vantec 12cfm fan. it came with a 6800rpm monsterous fan but i couldn't stand it. chips not worth squat anyways, if it dies eventually who cares:p its stable now and temps aren't bad at all.

you can get a fanmate 1 speed controller for about 5 bux from many places too.

psu, if ur gonna mess with that i suggest you get a fanbus/rheobus. i have a nxp-201. i hooked it up to my psu. some cutting and crimping required cuz well, psu fans arent meant to be replaced or messed with heh:p pretty easy anyhow, its just two color coded wires. you can then use the knob to control the fan until its just barely audible:) svc.com has the controller for 21 bux. 4 knobs, each channel can handle 15-18 watts of fans, quite a few normal fans. if your going to undervolt your cpu fan, control your case fans too. if you don't have any, install one or two.
