Way better.

I had a 6x GM PK mage. I once accidentally hit the "recall" button instead of the "portal" button in my rune book into town.

Saddest day of my gaming career.

UO was better up until EQ came out. If they had modernized UO graphically to compete with EQ and its successors and actually added in some game goals I would have stayed with it. Unfortunately EA ruined anything good there was with that game once they got their hands on it IMO and other than adding in the non-PVP mirror world did nothing to fix many of the problems.

Having played both, I find EQ infinately better than WOW.
It is sort of like the iPod, everyone raves about it, but it is nothing newer than what had already been out three years earlier. I am certaily open to being persuaded that WOW is better, but I can't figure out why WOW became more popular.

EQ was horribly balanced on a class by class basis. The biggest differences that I notice between EQ and WoW are:
Classes are balanced more correctly in WoW - though not by much
You can be a mentally handicapped 10 year old and still play WoW. However you had to be moderately intelligent to play EQ.

I was a PVPer and I have yet to find another game in which I enjoy PVP anywhere near as much. I guess thats just from a PVP standpoint. I thought adding in the non-PVP world was ridiculous. And yes, EA did ruin it. Fast.

UO pac here.

I started up a Chaos guild. I hired a guy who delivered full shadow chain mail sets every few days. He dropped them off right into my house (easily the best part about UO).

For a while, I was playing around with a buckler of invulnerability hahaah

mad lulz on that one until some doucher with a mace destroyed it.

I actually just started UO again for the heck of it. They made a transition with Age Of Shadows to an item based game and it was pretty awful. At this point it's started to get more refined as they've expanded and refined the system and added a lot more things to fight.

And it's still the only place where you can design and build your own house. Here's a picture of the one I built yesterday.

I remember when there were only a few house designs. I really do miss the Dread Lord Vs Glorious Lord battles at the cross-roads. Ahh, memories. I was Baja and SP.

Asheron's Call anyone?

Oh yes. Asheron's Call was freaking awesome.

Long time Toutou resident here.

Former member of the Morningthaw server here.

AC was my first MMO...might still be playing if I wouldn't have gotten hacked :( level 85 Battlemage down the tubes.

(And yes I realize how EXTREMELY nerd I just sounded )

I've never played either game, but I would assume it is similar to the ipod scenario. Blizzard's marketing and reputation made it huge

Yeah I'm on Baja. I got my friend on the game and he got some coworkers on it and one of them ended up the GM of LoD.

As for me, I played it from the beginning. First house I placed was actually a blue tent. ;) Their big plan right now is adding more events and reviving faction warfare to get people back to Fel. We'll see how it goes. At any rate, with my limited gameplay time, UO is the only thing I can play for hour long spurts and do something fun.

But, ya, I played EQ briefly. It's where I realized I hated forced grouping. Still, I first tried a half elf in Qeynos. Then rolled a dwarf and wanted to get to Qeynos cause I was more familiar with the place. So at lvl 2 I travelled across the entire EQ world to get to Qeynos shouting and getting direction from players in various zones. Good times.
