is anyone hosted with godaddy?

Aharami

Lifer
I have had my domain registered thru them for 2 years now. No problems there. Up till now I've been using 1&1's free hosting for 3 years deal. Well that's ending soon, and im nearing full capacity with them anyways. So I've been looking for an alternate host.

Recently moreweb.com (the people who host anandtech.com apparantly) had a 50% deal where 2 years of hosting came out to $83. Moreweb offers 2000 Mb storage space, 50Gb bandwidth, and upto 3 SQL databases.

But looking around, I've found that godaddy offers 5Gb storage, 100Gb bandwidth, and 5 dbs for around $76 for 2 years. Now $7 difference doesnt matter to me, but the 3Gbs of extra space does.

With godaddy, I'd have to go with their linux based hosting since they have PHP support only on their linux based machines.

Should I make the switch to godaddy (if moreweb offers me a full refund ofcourse)?

The control panel you get with GoDaddy will be light years behind that of a company like Moreweb. I wouldn't bother with GoDaddy for a single moment. I would recommend contacting your host and asking if they can work out a custom plan for you or something.

can you elaborate? I'm asking because I havent had much experience with many hosting companies and their control panels. All Ive seen so far has been 1&1, and it seemed adequate for my needs (personal website to host lots of pictures). What makes the cp of moreweb better than that of godaddy? Do you say that because moreweb is primarily a hosting company whereas godaddy is primarily a domain registration one?

I have to say though, I've been very happy with moreweb's service. They set me up right away and answer emails within the hour.

Good service and ease of use matters to me and naturally I wouldnt switch if CP of moreweb will make my life easier than that of godaddy

They host my site.

can you confirm or refute what AgaBoogaBoo is saying? Does godaddy's CP suck?

Well I am a novice, but when I bought the Website builder in addition to purchasing my Domain name, they have a control panel that allows you to build your site. It comes with templates. The control panel is somewhat limited on fonts and special effects. You can upgrade for a price. It isn't all that bad depending on what you are building your site for. I added a chat forum for 3 bucks to go along with my site. The customer service by phone has been astounding for me. They are 24 / 7 and help someone like me who is not a web designer and a mere novice. They walk you through everything and help you with just about anything you need.

thanks for the post. I dont really care about their site builder since I have my own site already. Did they charge you for the chat forum because you used their software? What if I use a free php forum software and want to install that? Would they still charge me? I guess I should email them and find out.

They give you many different options for hosting. I want to say they use Simplemachines and PHP software already. I had tons of PHP templates to choose from to build my own chat forum. It was only 3 dollars a month and I just had it run off my existing site.
